Common Questions
What does hypnosis feel like? How will I know when I'm hypnotised?
Hypnosis is an individual experience, which is generally described as a pleasant, relaxed, day dreamy state. Because hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, or awareness, at no time will you be asleep or unaware of what is going on. You will, however, be likely to feel more relaxed than ever before. A feeling of peace, serenity and well-being generally accompany this relaxation. An example of this is when we drive to a place in a car and we gone there many times before, our subconscious mind can at times take over from our conscious mind. We do still arrive there safely, although we do question ourselves how, as we unlikely to consciously remember some or half of the journey etc. It feels like we are here, cant remember part or most of that journey. Subconscious mind remembers the way and is confident to take control, this allows our conscious mind to then think of other things whilst we drive. We are on autopilot is the term. We are on autopilot lots of times in our daily lives, it is essentially learnt behaviours that our subconscious mind have mastered over time. Isn't our brain and mind incredible and we are always learning more about our brain and mind. We say we only use 10% of our brain, this means 90% of your brain is linked to the fascinating elements of our subconscious mind.
Are there any side effects?
Yes, lots of feelings of positive wellbeing, calmness and positivity!

I would like to achieve my full potential but feel that I am sabotaging myself. Would hypnotherapy help me to stop sabotaging myself?
Self-sabotage is quite common amongst our clients and is often an misguided attempt by the subconscious to protect you in some way. The important thing is to establish what the belief is behind the behaviour and get the subconscious to re-evaluate that belief and bring it in line with your adult conscious thinking. So to answer your question yes I believe it is very likely that we can help you change your behaviours and start supporting your efforts rather than sabotaging them.

How long can the effects of Hypnosis last for?
This depends on the degree of subconscious change that was initially brought about. The best and most long lasting therapy addresses underlying causes of the behaviour causing concern.
It depends on the individual, but there is always the possibility that a problem can be treated once and never troubles the client ever again. It is also possible that hypnotherapy will be successful but won’t last a lifetime and may need ‘topping up’.

Is it possible to get stuck in trance?
It is NOT possible to get stuck in trance. Think of it as being like going to sleep. Has your Hypnotherapist, I will count down from five and when I get to closer to one, you will gradually come out of the relaxing state of hypnosis. Some clients enjoy it so much, they want to stay in this very relaxed state for longer, but it is important that when the session comes to an end, that you come out of hypnosis, when I begin counting down and as i get to number 1, I would be asking you to open your eyes and feel wide-awake. You will at this stage feel wonderful, relaxed, but energised and ready to take on the world again with renewed confidence and positively.

How frequent will the treatment sessions be?
At the beginning it is usually best to have each treatment session around 7 days apart. This gives the work done in each session the time to sink in and to be processed by the brain and during this time you may begin to notice your thoughts, attitudes or behaviours changing.

Whether hypnosis is safe?
Many people ask “Is hypnosis safe?” The answer is, yes… if it is done by a well-trained therapist. It is important to ensure that your therapist has at least a Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD) as this is seen as the bare minimum for a professional hypnotherapist. As well as this they should be insured for public liability and professional indemnity. If the hypnotherapist is a member of a professional body they will usually have to work to a code of conduct and ethics. This makes the process of hypnotherapy safe for you to enjoy.

Can hypnosis work as a performance enhancer?
In a word, yes. Hypnosis has been shown to improve performance in many areas including: sports, career, memory and concentration, acting, studying, exams, presentations and public speaking skills.
